Leakage or Soiling After Stool
Soiling means small amounts of stool or fluid staining the underwear after you have finished passing motion. It can happen due to loose stools, piles, fissure, fistula, mucus discharge, rectal inflammation, incomplete cleaning, or reduced sphincter control. The good news: in most cases it improves when the cause is treated.
- Over 10,000+ satisfied patients treated

- Cashless insurance support available
Common Patterns You May Notice
Staining of underwear 10–60 minutes after motion, sticky mucus or wet feeling around anus, itching, burning or skin irritation due to moisture, and a feeling that stool is not fully cleared. Worsens with diarrhea, oily/spicy foods or excess coffee. Tip: After passing stool, wash with water, pat dry, and keep the area dry.
Common Underlying Causes
Loose Stools / Diarrhea
Poor stool consistency causing liquid fecal seepage before the anal canal can form a complete barrier.
Internal Piles with Mucus
Prolapsing hemorrhoids that weep mucus and create anatomical folds where residual stool is trapped.
Fissure Pain & Incomplete Evacuation
Pain-induced sphincter spasm causing patients to cut evacuation short, leaving residual stool in the canal.
Fistula / Abscess with Discharge
Abnormal tract constantly leaking fluid, pus, and serous secretions directly onto undergarments.
Proctitis / Rectal Inflammation
Inflammatory secretions and heightened urgency causing frequent mucus leakage.
Reduced Sphincter Control
Weakened anal sphincter tone due to post-delivery trauma, aging, previous surgery, or nerve weakness.
When to Consult (Red Flags)
Do not delay medical consultation if you experience:
- Continuous pus discharge, foul smell, or painful swelling
- Blood in stools, black stools, or severe rectal bleeding
- Sudden loss of bowel control, or worsening leakage
- Fever, chills, severe weakness
- Persistent diarrhea > 48 hours or dehydration
Safe Home Care (Simple Tips)
- Wash with water after motion; avoid harsh rubbing
- Pat dry; keep area dry to prevent itching
- If stools are loose: avoid very spicy, oily foods; take ORS if needed
- If constipation: add fibre gradually; drink warm water; don’t strain
- Short walks daily; regular bowel routine
